Is it safe to convert a confidential PDF online? Here is what happens to your file.
The honest answer for any online tool is: read what it does with the file afterwards. This page is that answer for Saff, in plain terms, with the parts that are engineering rather than policy called out as such.
What happens to a file you upload
It is used for the extraction and then removed. Saff does not keep original files after processing unless your workspace connects its own storage bucket and asks for originals to be kept there, in which case they are stored encrypted in your bucket and previewed through Saff after sign-in. The values extracted from the file, and any corrections you make, are stored in your workspace, encrypted at rest.
Your documents are not used to train or improve anything for anyone else. Each workspace's data is separated from every other customer's. Uploads, exports, previews and corrections are recorded in an activity log you can read. The legal detail, including who processes data on our behalf and where, is on the privacy and subprocessors pages, and those pages name the operating company because a contract needs one.
The controls, specifically
No originals by default
Original files are not kept after processing unless connected storage is selected. Extract-only is the default mode.
Encrypted sensitive data
Extracted values, corrections, storage secrets, temporary uploads and retained originals are encrypted before they are saved.
Workspace separation
Workspace data is designed to stay separate from other customers' workspaces, with signed-in access only.
Activity records
Uploads, exports, previews and corrections are recorded, so you can see who did what with a document.
